New Las Vegas roller rink proposal skates through to Huntridge neighborhood
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A $3.8 million roller rink is coming to Las Vegas as longtime Huntridge neighborhood residents are eagerly tying their skates.
During a City of Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency meeting, council members heard a proposal from J Dapper Companies regarding their newest venture in the Huntridge Center.
“As a mother of a fourteen-year-old that I have to drive outside of Ward 3, it’s really exciting to hear a roller-skating rink will be coming to our neighborhood in the future,” Las Vegas Councilwoman Olivia Diaz said. “So, appreciate that from a mom perspective.”
The location of the “Starlite” roller rink is inside the former grocery store at Huntridge Center. The vacant 22,000 square feet site is undergoing improvements and has entered into agreements with tenants, according to J Dapper Companies’ presentation.
“There is also going to be an arcade in the center,” city redevelopment agency staff said.
Conceptual designs portray a glittering and LED design. Appearing to take some scenes from roller rink scenes like the 1979 film Skatetown U.S.A..
“I think kids need more viable places to go when they come to Vegas,” Herdine Williams Jr., a 20-year Las Vegas resident said. “I think the kids could get into it. If they can get into EDC, they can get into roller skate.”
Williams said he thinks the roller rink will be a major boon for the community and said it will be a major compliment to the commercial center.
“This is a start,” he said. “We forget about our children and about family, where they could go and spend some quality time together.”
As for the food served, Williams said he hopes they include some roller rink classics.
“They got to get the right hot dogs,” he said. “I don’t want the garbage. You got to get the Chicago hot dogs, or nothing.”
Documents on the roller rink indicate completion in winter of this year, but redevelopment agency staff said during the presentation the likely opening date will be in Spring of 2026.
